What does it mean to carry your culture forward? Sometimes it begins with a conversation, but for us, it begins with the feeling that our connection to our culture is slowly weakening. As first-generation Nigerian Americans, we struggle to hold on to our Edo culture. But we are no longer allowing those struggles to limit our curiosity or keep us from learning more about Edo.

Edo Weekly begins with that curiosity. It begins with asking about a family tradition, learning a word, or listening to a story you have never heard before. This is a place for Edo Youth Club to share stories and ideas, explore our heritage, and keep our community connected.

Rooted in Edo. Open to everyone.

Edo Youth Club is the youth division of Edo Club. Based in New Jersey, we bring young people together around a shared love for Edo culture and Nigerian culture more broadly, along with a commitment to serving our communities and honoring our ancestors.

You might have grown up surrounded by Edo traditions, or you might be learning about them for the first time. Either way, you are welcome here. You do not have to be Edo to get involved. Stay, learn something new, or share your ideas with us.

Culture is something we share.

Our stories, language, food, art, and traditions give us ways to connect across generations and borders. Exploring them together gives young people room to ask questions, learn from one another, and bring their own perspectives. More importantly, we are keeping Edo culture alive!

This journal is a starting point for those conversations. As the club grows, Edo Weekly will be a place to share what we are learning and what we are building together.

Bring your voice.
